Swimways Aquires North Carolina-based Luxury Float Manufacturer

Leading Pool Toy & Float Company Dives into Deal with Spongex®, LLC

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – January 6, 2014 – Swimways Corp., a leader in the pool and leisure marketplace, announced today that it is acquiring Spongex®, LLC, makers of Aquaria luxury aquatic leisure products, from Nomaco Inc. The acquisition includes the Spongex manufacturing plant in Tarboro, N.C. and its 45 employees.

Known for its Aqua Cell® foam technology, an exclusive and made-in-the-USA custom closed-cell foam molding process, Spongex produces high-quality, comfortable and long-lasting floats, loungers and luxury noodle-shaped floats. The addition of the Spongex assortment to the Swimways portfolio will enhance the company’s popular collection of pool floats, including the top-selling Spring Float® featuring patented inner spring technology.

“We are very excited to welcome the team from Spongex to the Swimways family,” said David Arias, president, Swimways. “We anticipate that this excitement will resonate with our retailers, as well as consumers, as we gear up to bring innovation to the high performance Aqua Cell manufacturing technology.”

While the changeover to Swimways’ leadership began on January 1, 2014, the acquisition will not be noticeable at retail until 2015 when Spongex products will be distributed under the SwimWays brand. Currently, Spongex products are sold at Sam’s Club, Leslie’s, Frontgate and other specialty pool retailers nationwide. Swimways products, including its Spring Float, Toypedo® and Swim Steps brands, are distributed internationally at mass, sporting goods and specialty pool retailers.

Swimways Corporation Recognized as One of the Best Places to Work in Virginia

Virginia Beach, Va. (December 4, 2013) – Swimways Corp., a leading outdoor recreational products manufacturer, announced today that it has been named one of 2014’s Best Places to Work in Virginia by Virginia Business and Best Companies Group.

The annual list of the Best Places to Work in Virginia was created by Virginia Business and Best Companies Group. This statewide awards program is a two-part survey process which identifies, recognizes and honors the best places of employment in Virginia. Part one involved the evaluation of each nominated company’s workplace practices, policies, philosophy, systems and demographics. This part was worth about 25 percent of the total evaluation. The second part consisted of a survey to measure employee experience. This final part of the process was worth approximately 75 percent of the total evaluation. The collected information was then combined to determine the strengths and opportunities of the participating companies and the final rankings. The registration, survey process and data analysis was managed by Best Companies Group.

Second Annual Campaign Will Raise Awareness about the Importance of Learning to Swim Through Free, Online Materials and a Partnership with Prominent Water Safety Expert

Dedicated to educating parents and children about water safety, National Learn to Swim Day is an opportunity for families to learn about the importance and benefits of learning to swim before Memorial Day Weekend and the start of summer.On May 18, Swimways encourages families nationwide to participate in National Learn to Swim Day in their own way, whether that means enrolling children in local swimming instruction, hosting a group swimming lesson, or discovering the tools that Swimways provides families, including its Swim Steps learn-to-swim program and online water safety resources available on Swimways’ dedicated Swim Steps website www.TeachMeToSwim.com.“Swimming is an activity that people all over the world enjoy come summertime,” said Monica Jones,SwimWays Power Swimr marketing director, Swimways. “In order to take part in all the fun the water can offer, children must be taught at an early age the fundamentals of swimming. Mario Vittone, former Coast Guard helicopter rescue swimmer and water safety expert, will work closely with Swimways to provide free swimming safety resources to families. Vittone will give expert advice on topics and challenges related to teaching children to swim on www.TeachMeToSwim.com throughout the summer. In addition to the expert advice, families will be able to download an event guide, poster, coloring sheets and accomplishment certificates on the dedicated site.

“Whether a child is in a bathtub or at a backyard barbeque, whenever a body of water is present, the risk of drowning exists,” said Vittone. “It is important that adults are aware of the risk factors, and educate both themselves and their children about water safety not only on National Learn to Swim Day, but throughout the year as well.”

SwimWays’ Swim Steps program is a three-step program that features colorful swim-training aids specially designed to help parents teach kids to swim at home. The first step of the program is designed to introduce and comfortably support babies in the water; step two products give children the ability and freedom to explore as they develop confidence and learn to balance and paddle (two important pre-swimming skills); and step three products provide graduated support, helping kids to feel empowered and confident as they strengthen and perfect their swimming skills.
